Job Description

Overview

Reporting to the Lead Manufacturing Engineer, the Automation Engineer is responsible for providing support to operations through maintenance and continuous improvement of industrial automation and control systems throughout the company, including but not limited to processing equipment, packaging lines, building management systems and MES interfacing.

Key Accountabilities

Project Management

  • Participate in cross-departmental project teams in automation related projects, including project conceptualisation, feasibility study and budgetary project costing.
  • Identify and propose automation system upgrades and modifications.

Asset Performance Management

  • Be the first point of escalation for fault finding on control systems including PLCs, servo controllers and industrial automation and electronics.
  • Plan, execute and document changes to industrial automation and control systems within a continuous improvement framework.
  • Responsible for the administration, control, documentation, maintenance, and management of the recipe system in accordance with change control protocols

Ideal Candidate Profile

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in electronics, control engineering or mechatronics

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience on industrial automation and controls in a manufacturing environment 
  • 3 years’ experience hands on maintenance on electrical and electronics equipment including troubleshooting and system upgrades

Technical Skills

  • Fluent in Siemens PLC programming
  • Fluent in HMI programming
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electronics and other automation technologies 
  • Strong knowledge of motor inverters and servo controllers
  • Working knowledge of robotics 
  • Working knowledge of packaging and processing machinery
  • Continuous improvement through the development of procedures and processes
