Job Description

Overview

Reporting to the Head of Process & Application, the Process & Technology Manager (PTM) is responsible for the management of the pilot plant ensuring compliance with established safety standards, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMPs), Food Safety, and Food Quality policies. 

The PTM coordinates projects that explore new technologies and has the responsibility to manage their budget, timelines, and the design of experiments. 

Furthermore, the role is responsible for reviewing and evaluating existing business processes related to the Bill of Material and production while looking for areas of improvement, solution development, and contributing to the implementation of agreed upon solutions. The role is interacting and facilitating across departments.

Key Accountabilities:

Setting standards and optimize processes: 

  • The role incumbent reviews business processes for improvement and leads the Bill of Material (BOM) process within Food Technology and cross departmental (i.e., Operations, Costings, Engineering, Planning) by:
    • Analysing and evaluating current BOM structure and related production & business processes for areas of improvement.
    • Determining and outlining process improvements.
    • Coordinating business process improvement strategies with internal stakeholders 
    • Overseeing all aspects related to the implementation stages of process improvement initiatives. 
    • Analysing and monitoring implemented changes to business processes and adjusting as needed.
  • The incumbent defines manufacturing process specifications and creates production/process manuals.

Pilot Plant Management: 

  • Develop research project plans regarding the exploration of new process & analytical technology including scope, design basis, success criteria, timelines, and resource requirements.
  • Manage the scale-up of new technology and support the scale-up of recipes using current process technology.
  • Manage design, procurement, delivery, installation, commissioning of new pilot plant equipment and, at a later stage, plant equipment.
  • Responsible for managing the pilot plant; adherence to hygiene rules, trial scheduling, material warehousing, cleaning, preventive maintenance and OHS requirements.

Analytical:

  • Explore and implement (incl. validation & training of operators) relevant analytical methods to characterize the impact of process modifications on ingredients and finished products. 

Ideal Candidate Profile

Education/ Experience

  • Master’s degree in Food/Chemical Engineering, Food Technology/Science or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the corresponding technical field, preferably in the FMCG or Pharma industry.

Technical Skills

  • Superior knowledge in Engineering & Food Science
  • Project management skills
  • Deep knowledge of Bill/BOM Structures and associated business processes and related technology solutions
  • Good understanding of physical / chemical analysis 
  • Superior knowledge in design of experiments and excellent data analytical skills
